Off to my wonderful OBcean tax preparer Byrna, with visions of Shepard Fairey dancing through my head. Byrna reminds me that the good news is that My Beloved and I, card carrying union members, have enough income to pay taxes. Hey! We’re middle class- for the moment! Our taxes are generally computed on a short form and last year our Federal and State tax rate was 13%. And the truth is we are ok with that- except for the war funding.
The “good news” for you and me as citizen taxpayers fizzles out completely when we realize that 2/3 of the corporations in this country pay no federal taxes. Think about that. Google (Do No Harm!) has a 5% tax rate and has been hiding the weenie in the Netherlands and other off shore locations to avoid taxes. What’s with that?
The showdown in Madison Wisconsin is all about money and power and it is not about the money and power of citizens who file IRS short forms and long forms. It is about the money and power and extensive, convoluted tax code that favor corporations –which do not vote nor serve on juries, like the rest of us. Or pay taxes-like the rest of us.
So why are those of us who file short and long forms chewing on each other’s hides when in fact the real anti-Americans enjoy a tax exempt status in an offshore account far, far away?

Anna is a wonderful writer and knowledgeable woman. I liked MONEY, not that I don’t like money, but I don’t see enough of it in my life or used correctly by politicians. END THE WARS; save the money for better things like helping the OBRag and columnists like Anna.
