A silky northwest swell is snapping ashore along the San Diego coastline, producing waves in the 4′ to 5′ range in many areas, with sets to 6′. Waves are expected to reach 8′ later today, and will be nearly as large on Sunday, says Surfline.com.
The swell has led to a high surf advisory from the National Weather Service. Waves will be smaller in north county. But the swell will produce strong rip currents along the entire coastline. Ocean temperatures are in the 54-56 degree range.
The advisory says,
“Minor beach erosion (may occur) during the late morning (with) high tides along with higher set waves hitting the bottom of Ocean Beach Pier, and jetties being washed over. Breaking waves across the Mission Bay entrance during the late afternoon and early evening low tides.”
South County waves will be in the 5-7 foot range today, with sets up to 8 feet. North County will get 4-5 foot waves, with sets to 6 feet.
Surfline.com says the
“solid, long period northwest swell will continue through the weekend, although it will be a little spot selective. We’ll also have a small southwest swell mixing in.”

actually this ain’t one of the biggest swells i’ve ever seen.once i was in california and there was a huge swell that wiped out every single object that could find in the beach and went all the way alone the road just like the tsunami.that’s what i call the real shit
