Due to the huge storm that’s walloping San Diego, thousands of SDG&E customers – including dozens in Ocean Beach – lost their electrical power Wednesday morning (12/22/10). Apparently, it’s happening across the City and County.
East County residents lost their ground line telephone service yesterday and it still has not been turned back on.
Channel 6 is reporting:
More than 8,000 San Diego Gas and Electric customers lost power around San Diego County Wednesday morning, as an unusually wet storm pattern blanketed the region for the sixth consecutive day.
The largest single outage affecting upwards of 3,000 customers in southern Poway, according to the utility.
Also affected were 1,676 in the Vista area, 1,271 in the Oceanside area, 20 in Carlsbad, 147 in the Gopher Canyon area, 16 in the Castle Creek area, 329 in the Julian area, 304 in Torrey Pines, 343 in the Mission Valley area, 122 in the Grantville area, 39 in the Ocean Beach area, 384 in the Clairemont area, and 657 in the Crest area.
As of 7 a.m., power remained out for all the affected customers.

Didn’t lose power- just my mind. It’s still raining…..
How’s your garage? Our back garage has a floor under water. We had new leaks/ drips in our family room, and I got up early this morning to check them all out, re-ignite the fire and play vigil.
well, if i had lost power i wouldn’t be able to tell you now would i? unless it came back on.
I love the rain, keep it coming! Everybody complains about it but we need it bad. What gets me is these people that come here from some other place and bitch, moan and complain when the sun isn’t out. Rain is good the plants need it, we need it, and it cleans away the pollution. Oh yea and it slows those fools down on the freeway that think they have to drive 90 miles an hour. I don’t care if the whole damn state floats away we need it!
I agree we need it but when so much comes so fast it can do more harm than good. But watcha gonna do but sandbag and bail out?
AT&T has some very unhappy customers. No technicians will be out to fix landlines till the 26th.
Cox phones work at my office in La Mesa. But on the 21 mile commute to work this morning, I counted: 1 flooded intersection, 1 overturned car on the freeway, 2 mudslides, and 1 downed 40′ pine tree. It’s getting soft out there…
Our Cox land line has been down since yesterday afternoon.
I was like “WOW” when I heard the 78 from I-5 through El Camino Real was flooded. I bet Temecula was under water this morning.

While you had a lot of disruptions, good to know OB survived without being really flooded or the Sunset Cliffs sliding in to the sea, houses and all. The sunset and rainbows sound lovely, remind me of many I saw over the Pier. I’ll be watching the Mud Bowl in Qualcomm tonight.
Yup, I’ve heard about your rainstorms clear up here in Oregon , probably the first week in history you got more rain than we did in “Webfoot.”
Now, I wonder if you’ve heard much about the murder conviction of the Turnidges up here. Yes, father Bruce and son Joshua, right-wing racist terrorists, their bomb killed two police officers and maimed a third in their blind hatred of our government, President Obama and “threats to their gun ownership.” They were both sentenced to death yesterday, but the national news coverage has been nothing compared to what it would have been had they been “Islamic radicals” who had killed police.
By the same token, regarding your article about more “government monitoring” (similar to the disgraced TIA of Poindexter), we can be sure they will devote much more interest in monitoring suspected “Muslim terrorists” and “radical environmentalists” than the right-wing anarchists who are a far greater threat.
Oh, and what’s with the Union-Trib’s Ruben Navarrette blaming the Democrats for the failure of the Dream Act? Frank, remember our “March to the Barrio” from OB to join them in the light show?
