There are reports coming in that there is some kind of disturbance on Newport Avenue around or possibly involving Hodad’s. There is a police helicopter circling as well.
A paramedic truck, eight police cruises were also reported to be in the area.
One unconfirmed report is that the helicopter is ordering the crowd to disperse.
Another unconfirmed report mentions a possible dog attack and/or a possible stabbing.

Another unconfirmed report about a fight between 2 homeless guys, which possibly involved a dog.
Listening to the scanner and all I hear is a 415 (disturbance) on rosecrans. But I just got home and might have missed it.
I was just down there a little after it happened. From what I heard people saying there had beena fight of some kind between 2 homeless guys and a dog had been involved. I didn’t see any dog on the scene.
I saw the cops questioning a tall, caucasian man with dreads who was denying any involvement with the incident due to his being a”spirtual guy”. The officer didn’t seem to be buying this.
There were 4 cop cars and I’d say 6 to 8 officers on the scene. I saw no sign of a chopper.
I didn’t see anyone injured, or any blood on the section of the side walk that had been taped off by the police. Nor did I see any paramedics or ambulances.
That’s all I can tell you, but there were quite a few people there, so I’m sure we’ll hear more.
Christina was getting our daughter from Grandma’s and was supposed to stop by BBQ House around 6:45, but said this chaos prevented her from accessing Newport on the way back…
I was down there shortly after the incident happened. We heard it was a fight between a few women and one guy. That is strictly word of mouth. However, there was definitely a helicopter, at least 8 cruisers, and an ambulance.
we clearly heard the SDPD helicopter officer say, “Disperse from outside Hodad’s immediately” sometime between 6:15-6:45p. a few moments later we hear several cruiser sirens wailing their way through town in that general direction.
i thought they only called out that SDPD helicopter when illegal pirates came ashore…just sayin
My son and I were leaving AppleTree when the helicopter flew over, loud and low.
There were a few annoucements from the copter for the crowd to disperse and a threat of arrest for individuals not involved in the scene who were still hanging around.
We got in the car and headed south on Bacon then left on Niagra, where we had to
stop for two Harbor Police patrol cars flying down the hill with sirens blazing.
Plenty of excitement for my 5 year old who only intended to come along on a search for
food coloring. :)

I had a front row seat for the whole thing because I was sitting at the window stools inside Hodad’s =)
The fight, actually it was more like a rumble, started between 1 hippy (possibly homeless) chick, who had a dog and another female with a group of friends. The dog girl, tried to get all crazy and started to have her dog try to attach the group of females while she lundged at one of them.
A male passer-byer tried to break it up, and then dog-girl’s bf (I assume) jumped in and started fighting with the guy and all hell broke lose after that. There were tons of people throwing blows at each other and females were getting kicked. The piece of crap guy, ended up beating on 3 of those chicks in that group, before another guy stepped up and beat the crap out of him. It looked alost like a fatal blow, because he got knocked the hell out! His body fell straight to the ground and blood was gushing from his nose. That crazy dog was trying to bite whoever it could the entire time! Poor thing was getting kicked around though. Being the dog-lover that I am, I stepped outside to see if I could pull the dog away from the chaos.
Most of the good samaritans took off once people mentioned the word ‘cops’. It took only a few moments before the scene was flooded with officers. SDPD & Harbor Police showed up, along with ABLE (copper chopper) shining the spot light on Hodad’s.
The cops handcuffed the dredlocked women beating guy, but that didn’t prevent him from spitting his blood on as many SDPD as he could, so they ended up putting some type of netted mask over his head. He then tried to headbutt one of the female officers and it took another 5 or 6 cops to tackle him down to the ground. The cops ended up having to use the taser on the guy a few times for him to submit to his authority. It was crazy to see his body convulse like that, less than 10′ from me. I had to finish off my milkshake for the show!
The cops ended up using the dog catching tool on the pole to take the violent dog away. Hippy girl was not letting her dog be taken away without a fight. At this moment, I realized that my new BB has video and started recording the rest of the action. They took her away in cuffs once the dog was secured. Poor dog will probably be euthenized =(
I felt really bad for the business of Hodad’s because the cops ended up blocking the area with yellow tape, which included their entrance. I bailed shortly after I finished my single bacon cheeseburger. My buddies picked the wrong night to flake on me, haha!

Great report, Beau. I was riveted reading this. Sounds like that woman-beating dude had a pretty bad day. Hopefully, no one got hurt too badly, including the dog.

My neighbor thought he heard the police heli announce “riot at Hodad’s”, so we jumped on our bikes to check it out.
Of course, the action was over when we arrived, but word on the street was a homeless guy hit a woman, her female companions jumped him & beat the crap out of him, & a dog was involved. You did an admirable job connecting the dots.

at least the reports that Hodad’s had run out of bacon weren’t true.

great report, I have noticed and increase in robberies in the area the last couple months too. I wonder if it`s this new element in OB ? Anyone else seen this increase ?
