OAKLAND, California — The city of Oakland, California on Tuesday legalized large-scale marijuana cultivation for medical use and will issue up to four permits for “industrial” cultivation starting next year.
The move by the San Francisco Bay Area city aims to bring medical marijuana cultivation into the open and allow the city to profit by taxing those who grow it.
The resolution passed the city council easily after a nearly four-hour debate that pitted small-scale “garden” growers against advocates of a bigger, industrial system that would become a “Silicon Valley” of pot.

It’s about time! Bonnie Dumanis….pay attention.
Wow..Oakland the most undesirable place to live in CA. The city with a higher crime rate then Tijuana. This city tops the lists with the crappiest/ most dangerous cities to live in US. I think it’s their plan to revive tourism. I can see the tour guide: “and one your left the most beautiful weed crops in CA,their on your right the two guys left for dead last night”…..When prop 215 passed Oakland was one of the first places to adopt the medical use for weed. At that time Oakland was somewhere between number 28 to 35 in the list of America’s most dangerous cities. Now days Oakland “struggles” to get into that number 1 spot as US most dangerous city, but weed farming is coming..no worries. BTW the mayor and the chief of police put out of list of about 45 crimes (including burlgaries, auto theft and other) the police will no longer be dispatched
