UPDATE: Go here for latest.  And here.

Richard Engel of NBC just reported that the Syrian government has angrily summoned the U.S. ambassador for an explanation on the American incursion into Syrian territory.

American commandos in four helicopters flew across the Syrian border and attacked a village about ten miles from the border. (see red area of map.) Up to nine people were killed. Two of the helicopters landed, the troops disembarked and then assaulted a building.

Richard Engel reported this morning that just last week, a local American commander complained that Syria was not doing enough to halt the flow of fighters coming into Iraq from Syria.

“…a local American commander complained that Syria was not doing enough to halt the flow of fighters coming into Iraq from Syria.”

How about stopping the flow of U.S. fighters coming into Iraq from the U.S.A.?

Syria you have now officially entered the “war on terror.”

This is the first US military incursion into Syrian territory
ever – is is military expansion and should be taken seriously .

Good timing huh? days before the election? 8 civilians killed? I thought we didn’t kill civilians.

We have been conducting covert operations into most middle eastern countries for years. This one just appears to be more blatent than the past ones. I am actually a little surprized it made the press and that the Syrians are complaing about it. I guess we’re losing more internatioinal friends every day

Maybe the only reason it made some of main stream press is because the bloggers picked it up and have pushed it into the light.
