Members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protested outside the downtown San Diego Convention Center today calling attention to biotechnology companies that experiment on animals. Less than a dozen PETA members held up signs that read “end stone-age animal tests.” The four-day BIO International Convention, which began today, features about 20,000 people representing more than 2,200 companies from across the country and 70 nations.
PETA members used a 10-foot-tall inflatable dinosaur to note what they said were “antiquated and cruel animal experiments.” As PETA members peacefully handed out flyers with details of biotechnology company practicies, convention-goers passed them by on their way to lunch, seemingly unfazed. The animal-rights organization recently complied a list of the 10 worst CEOs for treatment of animals, and said seven of them were represented at the convention.

I was there but did not see any PETA reps. Instead I was part of a smaller and somewhat more unorganized group of young activists. We were not very big but we sure as hell were loud and we were fortunate enough to make the news.
