On the way home from grocery shopping, being the gluttons for punishment and rolled tacos that we are, we ventured into the drive-thru at Roberto’s here in OB. We haven’t been there in quite a while and had heard that the prices there had gone up, $8.62 for 12 rolled tacos with guacamole. Whew.
I recollect paying $2 for 20, but then we were paying about seventy five cents a gallon for gas. The price of gas, the price of corn…. how can I complain about the price of tacos if I don’t complain loudly enough about the price of gas? So yeah, 12 rolled tacos with guac, cheese, green sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan.
We took them home and after putting the groceries away, sat out on the front porch in the great weather and started right in. They were tasty and we had finished about half of the top layer when Frank asked, “what kind of tacos are these?” They had so little meat in them you surely couldn’t taste it.
I couldn’t believe it really. We’ve all seen lean tacos, but man! Incredible. But hey, we ate them anyway. When we got down to the last two we decided to open one up and see just how much meat there was. Muy poquito carne.
I picked up the last taco and took a bite. Take a look. Click on that picture down there and really look. But now that I think about it, it didn’t say “Rolled Beef Tacos” on the menu, it said “Crispy Rolled Tacos,” and hey! I’ll give ’em that much.

A little consumer-oriented blogging for OB.
I guess that’s why having your own blog is great.
What do you expect you said it “the price of Gas” They have to eat to. Although I had to laugh I had a burrito in a local unamed Mexican fast food place on the Norh side of the 2cd block on Newport and the cooks had 3 Starbucks delivered. I guess something has to power them up to churn out that stuff.
That’s still more than you’d get at People’s. Their rolled tacos have no beef.
UPDATE: After our third call to speak to a manager, we finally reached Jose, who was very gracious, apologetic and offered us a free meal next time we’re at the drive-thru. We’ll take him up on it.
You’re looking for beef on rolled tacos (flautas)?? sold at OB, you are crazy.
There isn’t supposed to be any, it’s a string of beef, and that’s it.
You want beef, HODADS!!
Or you can drive to Kaelin’s Market, tacos $1.25 with two tortillas, and you can actually make two tacos out of one.
Of course, you have to get out OB and drive to Hell Cajon.
I know this is an old article but;
They still offer chicken rolled tacos on their menu but I was told last week that they haven’t sold any for like 6 months.
My pals call the place Regreto’s and I admit that I have to be starving (and not worried how I feel the next day) to eat there, and yes…I still eat there but (imho) Nico’s blows them in the weeds.
The only thing is, Nico’s isn’t open 24 hours or a drive-thru
