Ten people were arrested Tuesday in upstate Vestal, N.Y., after police say they shoved officers at a rally.

NEW YORK — Thousands of people carried signs and chanted in the streets of Manhattan on Tuesday, calling for an end to the war in Iraq, which began five years ago today. [Go here.]

DES MOINES, IOWA. Two anti-war protesters were arrested today inside the Armed Forces Career Center on Des Moines’ south side.Kirk Brown, 25, and Ed Bloomer, 61, were taken to the Des Moines police station. Officers said they would be questioned, checked for warrants and issued citations. Bloomer eventually was booked into the Polk County Jail; Brown was released. They are accused of blocking the hallway to recruiting offices at the career center, 5921 S.E. 14th Street in the Stoney Point Plaza. [For the rest, go here.]

MADISON, WI. Nine peace activists went to the military recruiting station at a little before noon on Wednesday March 19. They formed a circle on the sidewalk outside of the stations and began reading names of US soldiers and Iraqis who have died in the war and occupation. After being warned by a recruiter,five individuals continued the vigil outside, while four of the activists went inside to talk to the military recruiters. When the police arrived they arrested Joy First, Bonnie Block, and David Nordstrom, charged them with trespassing, which carries a $424 fine.
