On-going Protests Are San Diego’s Response to Iraq War Anniversary; Die-In Planned for Sat. March 22
SAN DIEGO, CA. As the dwindling light faded into darkness on the day of the 5th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion, dozens of candles shone brightly in the emerging gloom. Organized as a vigil by local MoveOn, 250 San Diegans rallied at the corner of Laurel & Sixth Avenue to show their anger and disgust for the war and occupation. A few police officers leaned on their patrol cars nearby, fairly convinced nothing too outrageous would occur from this crowd of mainly gray-haired citizens.
This was part of San Diego’s answer to the nation-wide protests on this anniversary. There had been a rally of nearly a 1000 last Saturday, the 15th, in City Heights as the main local action.
There is a “die-in” scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, March 22, somewhere San Diego proper, at 2 pm, sponsored by Scene Diego and San Diego 911 Truth.
