Kuchinich Bows Out of Presidential Race

Democrat Dennis Kucinich is bowing out of the Presidential race without endorsing any other Democrat in the Primary. He will make a formal announcement on Friday, January 25th. “I will be announcing that I’m transiting out of the presidential campaign,” Kucinich said. “I’m making that announcement tomorrow about a new direction.”

Molly January 24, 2008 at 8:49 pm: It is sad, yes, that Kucinich is bowing out. He did have the best politics, but he was not charismatic, nor was he able to build a mass movement of supporters for his campaign during the YEAR that he ran. We on the left have to face it that the race for this elevated office is part politics and part appearance. Dennis never looked presidential. Nor did he act it. It was not Kucinick that inspired the young. New Hampshire wasn’t flooded with college kids working for him.

PiePipper January 28, 2008 at 9:41 pm: I’m not sad at all. He had no chance of winning and could not mobilize an afternoon pizza run. Look, the man had good intentions – no doubt. But he took up the people’s time and money on a Quixotic run that never got off the ground except for his true believers.

Richard Nadeau January 29, 2008 at 9:26 am: Kucinich didn’t bow out, he was kept out. Once the primaries started, he was banned from all media debates. If we truly care about democracy, we should all be sad about this sorry state of affairs.

Pie Piper implies it was Kucinich’s own fault and a waste of time and money of his “true believers.”.

This comment reflects a lack of any understanding of the American political system, and fails to note the common pattern whereby the politcal and media establisment systemically exclude critical thinking. Look what happened to John Dean in the last elections, or how Nader was incorrectly blamed by the
Dems for the stolen elections.

The notion that those of us supported Kucinich because of his principled stand on the issues ( he was by far the most progressive democratic candidate) were “true believers” is both insulting, and frankly, superficial.

Apparently the real “true believer” is the Pie Piper himself who apparently believes that the current electoral system in America is both democratic and fair, and that people like Kucinich are given a fair chance to succeed, and that if they fail it is their own fault.

This is so much wishful thinking and runs counter to the reality of a highly administered corporate system that is increasingly authoritarian and violently allergic to critical thinking.!
