It’s true. Former Congressman Jim Bates is making his comeback as the ghost of Paul Revere. Bates is actually re-enacting Revere’s midnight ride this Saturday night, June 13th at – of all times – midnight.
He’ll be on a horse calling for a need for the country to mobilize a large scale effort to get the nation off fossil fuels, a type activists call “a U.S. government World War II-scale Mobilization to transition the U.S. from fossil fuels to conservation and safe, clean wind, water and solar renewable energy.”
Bates’ ride begins at the All Saints Episcopal Church at Sixth and Pennsylvania and will take him and his horse through Balboa Park to Laurel. There he will be greeted by a people who have mobilized for the action, from groups that are sponsoring the event via the San Diego Mobilization Coalition, including the Labor Council, the Peace Resource Center, the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, the Environmental Health Coalition, the County Democratic Party, the OB People’s Organic Foods Co-op, the OB Green Store/ Center and the Citizens’ Climate Lobby.
The midnight event will be part of the National Day of Action June 14th that

Golly I can’t wait for the end of fossil fuel! But my walk to work, OB to Kearny Mesa, is going to be a real bitch!
There will be a bike contingent from Ocean Beach to the MIDNIGHT RIDE! Riders wll be meeting at 10:30 p.m. on Soto Street and will start their bike ride at 10:45 p.m.! Happy Peddling :-)
Too bad Bates is involved. With his history of sexual harassment and grossly inappropriate behavior towards women, this event loses credibility. At the very least, it’s keeping my family away due to the fact that I have daughters and I don’t want to bring them anywhere near him.
