Right now, the Ocean Beach Community Plan is tentatively on the agenda of the California Coastal Commission for its October meeting. Each month, the Commission changes its location, and in October it will meet at the Newport Beach Civic Center. The dates are October 8 – 10th.
Where exactly the OB Plan is on their agenda is not known at this time. OB planners have calls into the City Planning Department for updates, and we’ll publish those updates as soon as we hear about them.
In the meantime, city staff and staff from the Coastal Commission have been meeting to resolve differences that were illuminated during the approval process. The City Council unanimously approved the Plan on July 29th
Councilman Ed Harris’ aid, Chet Barfield confirmed this at the recent OB Planning Board meeting last week. This was reported in Tony de Garate’s excellent report of that meeting for the Beacon. Tony reported:
“The two entities are hammering out “non-serious” differences, Barfield said, in language in the document, which is designed to guide growth in Ocean Beach for the next 20 years.”
It is also not known what kind of effort OB planners will exercise in getting OBceans up to the Newport Beach meeting. Stayed tuned for news of when and how. Hopefully, there will be some kind of ride-sharing or bus rental.
