Fisherman Jumps In and Saves Struggling Man
A fully-clothed couple jumped off the OB Pier around 11 pm Tuesday night. But they immediately got into trouble and started yelling for help.
A fisherman up on the pier, Paul Song, heard them, and either jumped or dove into the cold Pacific to help them. Song told 10News that when he reached the man, the guy was struggling:
“I knew that he wouldn’t make it in time — or I thought so — so I went in to try and get him to shore, take his clothes off, so the clothes wouldn’t weigh him down. He couldn’t make it. He was giving me a hard time. So I just took him to a pillar and taught him how to ride the waves out until help came.”
Paramedics checked out each one and no one had to be hospitalized. The couple were arrested – she was charged with public intoxication. It is a crime, a misdemeanor, to jump off the pier.

Was it a suicide pact? Nothing in the channel 10 article about whether it was…
I think it was a pact formed by booze.
Honorable mention in the Darwin awards.
I was there when the two “jumped” off the reason for the quotation marks is because the woman didn’t jump off the man pushed her off before jumping in himself, he thought it would be fun to swim back to shore but soon realized there was a rip tide, I was one of the few people trying to talk to the and tell them to swim sideways or to swim along the shore not towards it, the woman listened and made it to shore safely by herself but the man was struggling and that’s when the other guy jumped in after him. It took almost 20 minutes for rescue to show up and jump in after the two men. They all made it to shore safely but intoxicated.
