South Swell Coming Wednesday Through Saturday?

Point Loma google satelliteWhether OB benefits from a new long-period south swell which is scheduled to hit San Diego County late Wednesday, we’ll have to see. But this south well will bring big waves and strong rip currents to the beaches through Saturday night, meteorologists said.

OB is not a south-facing beach, but several of the surf breaks along Sunset Cliffs are, which means that they could see the large swells coming in from the “south”.

The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement for San Diego County effective from now to Saturday night, July 13, saying 3- to 5-foot waves with sets to 8 feet are expected north of Carlsbad and along south-facing beaches between Point Loma and Imperial Beach. Elsewhere in the county, 2- to 4- foot waves are expected.  Fox 5
