Here’s a petition a reader and supporter of Ian Rey sent us.

A petition has begun:

“Sprout’s Farmers Market: reinstate Ian Rey to his job with their company” and need your help to get it off the ground.

Will you take 30 seconds to sign it right now? Here’s the link:

Here’s why it’s important:

Ian was a dedicated employee with a disability who was fired for mistakenly wearing a co-workers jacket home because he thought it was his. When he realized it was not his he brought it into work the next day to return it and get his jacket. The manager asked that Ian compose a “sorry letter ” which he did stating that he was sorry that he had mistakenly taken home the wrong jacket .

The manager used that letter as his admission to guilt and sent it to the corporate offices of Sprout’s Farmers Market in Phoenix, AZ. and Ian was terminated

UPDATE: I went to Baron’s on West Point Loma about 10 days ago, and Ian is now working there. I had a breif conversation with him and he seemed very happy.

I am happy that Ian is happy at his new job. He still hangs out every morning before work at the Starbucks & Einstein’s Bagels on Rosecrans and Midway Dr. However, once attorneys (Labor Lawyers) got involved in this case, it seems that “money” became the object and all the support and love for Ian by many of his friends kind of got left behind.

Part of the agreement hammered out with Sprouts required the Facebook page about Rehiring Ian Rey be dropped. Another prerequisite: no spilling the beans about how much $$ Ian was paid for his trouble. I asked him and he hushed right up about it.

I also asked Ian if he understands how many people who really backed him and quit shopping at Sprouts because of his bad treatment there felt let down after his Facebook page was suddenly yanked? He didn’t answer that either. I wish Ian the best of luck at his new job & hope those Labor lawyers got a nice, juicy cut of the action, too.

As soon as he was fired, I quit shopping at Sprout’s, have never been back and I’ve advised my mother who lives in No. County not to shop at the one near her house, ever again. Stump’s prices are usually about the same, it’s closer and I’d rather spend my money in my own neighborhood, anyway.
