Here are some strange sights of Ocean Beach – sights one doesn’t see all that often during the life course of the village.

Ever since Apple Tree Market closed, there’s been a fence around the entire lot.

I’ve been in these here parts since 1961 and I’ve never seen weeds growing out of the largest parking lot in the village.  Amazing.

Never since this either – a fence around the entire corner at Abbott and Saratoga, including …

A large project is coming soon.

What’s happening at the World Oil Lot at Voltaire and Sunset Cliffs?

The lot appears to be for sale.  What about World Oil’s Sunset Plaza?

So strange.

Wow, I spent a ton of time at Dempsey’s growing up. A great day of boogie boarding or body surfing and nothing quite hit the spot like one of their fantastic quesadilla’s. Takes me back!

The Apple tree lot is a real shame. A total waste of space. Any recent word on the fate of that property??

I asked an employee at People’s Food Coop why they didn’t expand into the Apple Tree property since People’s is looking to open a second location in the county?

He told me that he knows for a fact that the old Apple Tree location is a dump and that it is loaded with asbestos. When contractors first went in to dismantle many of fixtures after it was vacated, I think that’s when it was discovered just how much work and money will be needed to clean the old place up. Oh, and probably several Haz-Mat teams too.

There is a letter attached to the gate from the city declaring the building and parking lot a public nuisance. It is dated May1st and gives the owners 1o days to fix a list of things.I see no sign of anything being done so far.Stay tuned……
