Another OB woman has been assaulted.  This latest incident occurred on Ebers Street Friday night, November 9th.  The woman, whose identity will not be disclosed at this time, was walking home around 11:15 coming home from a bar on Newport.

A man began following her from Sunset Cliffs. She noticed that and had words with him. He reportedly half-apologized. But he kept following her.  And somewhere between Santa Monica and Saratoga, across the street from the small park, he attacked her. He grabbed her hair, threw her down and they began scrapping.

Fortunately, this woman, a small person, had the resistance power of someone bigger. She punched his face and began screaming. He got up and fled.

Neighbors who had heard the screaming came out.  Someone called 911.

When a police officer arrived – within minutes of the assault – the victim gave the officer a description of her assailant. She described him as white, about 5 feet 9 inches, with short bleached-blond hair, wearing a dark bluish plaid jacket. He  should be displaying punch marks on his face. She also said he had acne or freckles on his face and that his teeth were “messed up”.

This description does resemble at least that of the Robb Field Groper, another incident from last August, when a man grabbed a woman jogger.

The following was left at the OB Crime Watch facebook page:

“I was walking home and was attacked from behind on Ebers street between Santa Monica and Saratoga. It was a white male in his late 20’s, shaved head of light brown or blonde hair, with pockmarks on his face. HE LIKELY HAS A BLACK EYE (I managed to fight him off) AND A CUT ON HIS LEFT CHEEK FROM THE RING ON MY FINGER.”

UPDATE: The girl attacked on Friday night filed a report. “They said there was little they could do, even if they caught him, because this crime is just a misdemeanor.”

“He had a very quiet timid sounding voice. Half way down the block I hear him run up behind me (for some reason his footsteps had a very distinct sound, like he was wearing shoes with hard soles) and he grabbed my hair and attacked. It was about Midnight. I was coming from Newport ave. He for sure had been following me. The sketch on the cover photo does resemble my attacker.”

A neighbor heard her screams and called the police, then she filed a report. Initially she felt him coming up behind her on Santa Monica. He was following her. When she got home, she noticed deep bruising on her chest and thighs. She was groped.

this has impacted far too many women in OB. This must stop. glad she fought back, yet ever so bummed that this creep is still at large.

Dear OB Readers: the following comment was left at our email account and is about another assault on Newport – possibly racially motivated:

“Hello,
I would like to report an Assault that happened Saturday, 11/10/2012. I figure if you are able to put some of this information up on the blog, someone may have seen something.
Around 1130PM I was standing with my back against the wall at Hodad’s. I was talking in spanish with a mexican friend. Someone walked by and as he passed he said something along the lines of “we don’t need mexicans in OB.” A second later, he came around the corner with the back of his elbow and blindsided my head into the bricks. I was knocked out. I was told two girls may have witnessed this and came to help and call 911. My friend tried to stop the guy from leaving until the police got there. He then chased my friend from Bacon all the way down the street to the sidewalk in front of the Black. He tried punching my friend, attempted to choke him out, and began eye gouging him. Apparently, a group of skaters witnessed this and may have filmed it. A bouncer pulled the guy off and he was last seen heading south on Bacon near the Newport/Bacon intersection. He was about 6’1, short military haircut, wearing white and red plaid shirt with jeans.
The attack appears to be racially motivated.
Thank you for any assistance. “

“Another Ocean Beach Woman Assaulted” . . . and not reported by local media. I emailed UT “Crime and Safety” reporters, provided links to OB Rag’s stories about these two latest attacks, and asked why they weren’t publicized and that they follow up on the investigations.

I only learned of these violent crimes against local women because I’m on OB Rag’s email list. Thank you Frank and Chris for publishing this news in a timely fashion.

I hate that this keeps happening. I am a woman and have a daughter. I shouldn’t have to feel uneasy to walk in my own neighborhood.
Every woman should buy themselves pepper spray. I carry mine everywhere.
This is so frustrating.
