The Ocean Front alley between Del Mar and Coronado Avenues.
The U-T San Diego is reporting yet another sexual assault in Ocean Beach. This one was in south OB, in the Ocean Front alley between Del Mar and Coronado Avenues.
In this latest incident, which occurred Wednesday morning – Oct. 17th – a young woman walking in the alley was assaulted by a man who approached her from behind. He struck her on the head, told her to be quiet and he wouldn’t hurt her, fondled her breast and then ran away.
The 25-year-old woman was walking along Ocean Front Street between Del Mar and Coronado Avenues when assaulted.
When police and paramedics arrived later at the woman’s home, she declined to go to a hospital.
She did give a description:
- white guy,
- 5 feet 5 inches tall,
- with a thin but muscular build,
- wearing a green and white basketball jersey and
- plaid board shorts.

Other news reports on this incident coming in: Channel 6 says the incident occurred on the 1600 block of Ocean Front Street and that the victim was taken to a hospital for evaluation, whereas the original U-T story said she declined to go to a hospital.

Lots of “unsavory” types in O.B. lately:
dressed in all black, with big dogs, very aggressive panhandling…If I were SDPD, I would check those guys out right away. Then check those guys sleeping on Newport at night with their dogs and hanging around Java Joe’s and the liquor store.
Not sure where they are coming from. Not sure what they think they are doing in our community other than taking up space. Maybe they are doing the groping, peeping, etc.
Tony, the folks in “black” visit this time every year. I call them the Portland heroin crew, as they are the same type you find in Portland. Rolling Stone did an article a couple of years ago and how they migrate south using the rails.
Suspect in custody: SDPD’s Lt Natalie Stone has confirmed a suspect is in custody but they need any witnesses to come forward. Anyone who may have seen something.
In fact, a Cox Comm’s vehicle pulled up during the attack on this woman and scared away the assailant. The victim only saw the guy form behind.
The suspect is being held on other charges, so they need witnesses to the attempted rape.
UPDATE: Police strongly suspect they have the assailant in custody, and the man was released from prison only last Monday. Some stressed further, all indications he is likely to continue as a repeat offender. ****Lt. Stone strongly urged us all to ask are own OBcean families and friends to ensure anyone unaware of the 8:40am Wed. attack on Ocean Front and the assailant being held awaiting witness identification.
What time in the morning did this occur? This is just a few blocks away from me, too. I sincerely hope they have the right guy in custody, and will join that FB page.
