More violence is reported in Ocean Beach. This time, a bouncer in front of an OB nightclub was stabbed by a guy, who had been ejected from a bar. The victim’s injuries – a stab to the abdomen, are non-life-threatening. The incident occurred on the 5000 block of Newport Avenue early Sunday morning.
The suspect who was arrested a block north of the scene, had been causing a disturbance on the sidewalk in front of one bar, after thrown out of another. The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the bouncer trying to disperse a crowd gathered in front of the bar.

(Copied from Fri. stabbing comment section) That attack sounds bad, and I hope the victim recovers and the perps are caught, but is nothing compared to the full on gang battle, stabbing, and multiple assaults I witnessed first-hand last night, that started with a stabbing in a bar on Newport. Spilled down east from behind Hodads etc onto Bacon and all over the place. Not a police person to be found for a good, probably, 8, 10, 15 minutes since the time it must have started.
***Footnote, the article makes it sound solitary, confined, and handled. NOT. I witnessed many combatants, including two girls (one filming her friend getting knocked out then she got punched by another woman) and this was all in the alley not on Newport.
Also want to add only one person I saw was arrested, I didn’t see what happened on Newport but many other people were involved and none were even caught, detained, or questioned because the police showed up MANY MANY minutes later.
Please explain why so little police presence at the “witching” hour. Oh wait I already know why fighting crime is not their prime directive. Writing tickets is followed apparently by making sure you are far, far away from the danger zone, no?
I think you need to ask the city why they’re cutting the policing in neighborhoods, maybe if you went to the OB town council meeting the last wed of the month and ask the offciers who go to these meeting specifically to answer concerned citizen questions? if in fact, you have a questions. and not just assuming

From what I hear this melee was actually just locals welcoming the guy who did the stabbing and his band of raging idiot friends to OB.

So how did the new neighborhood watch program work out?
OB Crime watch targets another issue, starting with awareness and stemming from preventing attacks against woman. Your question misses the point entirely.
You know, there’s one easy step to take that would help mitigate some of this. Stop bussing in PB. They no longer have street fairs because they can’t control themselves. Bus in point Loma next time.

There’s a free shuttle every 30 minutes from the 710 beach club in PB. Brings a lot of that party scene here. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to demonize all of pb. But it does make it really easy for a lot of out of towners to come to the event and drink themselves silly with no need to worry about driving home. Hey, I like to have a good time too. And the event was great fun, but you’ve gotta respect your neighbors.

I’m not a huge fan of PB’s bro daddy culture myself, but I would like to think the majority of PB drunkards while obnoxious and at times a trigger happy (or fist happy rather) would still not resort to pulling out a knife. Chances are the person arrested was neither from PB or OB, but for some reason OB just seems to be a magnet these days. Who knows?

No extra police in OB after people have been drinking all day and are still out.Did they figure everyone was going to leave right after Octoberfest was over? Great policework boys. Our dumpster area was used for a toilet that night too. ( no extra toilets?) Garbage all over the place in the blocks surrounding Newport, fresh graffitii, and the alleys usual burnt urine/hot garbage smell is a bit more pungent. All so a few people can make some$$$ I doubt this event would be put on if there wasn’t money in it.
Shouldn’t bar owners put security in the alley behind their bars? Id imagine more happens back there than on the sidewalk. They are making huge profits getting everyone drunk, the least they can do is make sure their general area is safe,in front AND back.I

I too am so upset by all the violence here lately in this town I waited so long to live in. I’m on the citizen’s patrol & went out on the first shift fri night. Not sure yet the impact it will have. It was interesting in several different ways. Yes, I will write about it for the rag. I will say this though, saddest part was the single women we saw walking alone and we talked to did not even know about all the sexual assaults. More than enough reason right there to get people helping…what’s it gonna take Obceans?? Police certainly can’t seem to counted upon during these dark times in OB.

That kind of floors me there. In no way shape or form should we EVER blame the victim, but people really need to take it upon themselves to be more informed. The violence has been getting are pretty fair amount of coverage in local mainstream media.
Just texted my friend & she told me 90% of guys that talked to her in the bars sat night were from PB!

I think the sponsors should provide extra security, up & down the neighborhood to show the “boys’ from PB and all the other idiots that they can come over here, but if you can’t act like an adult, off to the drunk tank and heavy heavy fines!!!

My car was broken into last night right in front of my house on Bacon, and was able to flag down Officer Crane as he drove by shortly after I discovered what had happened. He was very nice and helpful, but said there is only ONE squad car that does the graveyard shift here in OB, which rotates every 4 months. That certainly won’t get the job done. He shared with me some info about how it’s usually the same people committing the crimes – they get locked up, everything calms down, then they get released and the cycle repeats itself. I was shocked to hear how many car thefts have occurred within just 2 blocks of my house in the last year.
It’s kind of weird, I basically knew something like this was going to happen at some point soon. Crime has been increasing, especially right where I live on Bacon. Every morning I wake up and wonder what has happened in front of my house, be it theft, vandalism, etc. No one in our community should have to live like that.
I have no qualms with some of the folks in OB who choose to live a life without rent or a mortgage. But that small faction is surrounded by large group of people who quite frankly take advantage of this town and we let them. It’s blatantly obvious that a lot of the issues myself and my neighbors have faced over the past year or so are directly related to that group. I’m not asking for another don’t feed the bums campaign – I just want to get to the bottom of this.
