Local waters have claimed the lives of two people recently – both victims were hunting lobsters. A fisherman’s body was pulled from the surf in Ocean Beach on Monday and a young lobster diver died around the Ventura Street Bridge in Mission Bay on Sunday night.
Edgar Paglumotan’s body was found by lifeguards around 4 pm Monday, October 1, in the surf. The 50-year old man had been lobster fishing with a friend in a sailboat near OB and Mission Beach. Reportedly, a large wave which the media called “rogue” hit their 20-foot boat, causing it to overturn. This was either late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. The wave sent both men into the water and the friend got to shore and was later sent for medical attention.
The missing man launched a large search effort, sending a helicopter and a 45-foot boat to search for him, assisted by police, firefighters and lifeguards. The search lasted for most of Monday until about 2pm. Paglumotan’s body was found about two hours later.
Details are sketchy on the other death of a lobster hunter. An unidentified man in his 20’s was found by lifeguards Sunday evening as a person administered CPR to him on the rocks near the Ventura Street Bridge of West Mission Bay Drive. He had been lobster diving.
About 8:30 pm someone called 911 – and then lifeguards found the man and moved him to flat ground. He died at the scene.

Does anyone know the name of the gentleman in his 20’s that was found near Ventura Street?
Or any other information on a description of him from someone that may have seen him before 8:30pm before that 911 call mas made?

I was particularly upset over these deaths as my daughter went lobster fishing with friends in Mission Bay that same night – but near a different bridge. She and her friends caught 28 – all legal. I helped eat the larger one Tuesday night. I never even knew there were lobsters in Mission Bay.
