Band Line Up for the OB Street Fair – June 23rd, 2012

Here’s the line up for the bands at this Saturday’s OB Street Fair, by stage, for Saturday, June 23rd.

RB June 18, 2012 at 1:59 pm: Of all the live music concerts I have been to, from Springsteen, The Who, to Elvis Costello, J. Giels, and The Stones, BB King, Stanley Clark, etc. nothing has ever been more memorable than the time I first heard Skid Roper in Mission Valley.

It was the mid 80s and I had just spent three years in the hills of West Virginia as an outsider, neither a Hatfield or McCoy, and had developed a fondness for banjos, fiddles, and mandolins. So when the hotels in Mission Valley had a Folk and Bluegrass convention, I decided to go. Most of the artist were twenty or thirty year veterans of folk and bluegrass and most of the audience was in a senior or pre-senior state of mind. The first hour or so was exactly what I expected. Various combinations of fiddles, banjos and mandolins preformed and received a polite claps form the room. Nobody had any idea of what would happen next.

As the last band gathered their equipment, two young men arranged the guitars and the stand up double bass for the next act. No one knew that these two roadie like workers were the next folk/bluegrass offering. I had never heard the names of Skid Roper and Mojo Nixon before this event, but I will never forget them or what I witnessed. Skid playing the music and Mojo acting insane. This wasn’t your daddy’s folk music. Half the room was in shock and the rest of the room either laughing or running for their safety. Mojo was part preacher, part acrobat, and part folksy lunatic and Skip was the steady straight man who allowed you to call this presentation music.

So I plan to see Skid Roper to remind myself that even when you are surrounded by craziness, it is still all about finding a steady beat and the music.

Goatskull June 18, 2012 at 2:39 pm: Kinda wished OB band The Screemini Yeehaw were playing again this year. They are a lot of fun and when they played last year it was the first time I think I’d ever seen a mosh pit break out at the OB Street Fair. Or is that possibley the very reason they’re NOT playing this year? Hmmmmm…..

Oh well regardless, I’ll be there.

Purple Pranksters June 19, 2012 at 2:20 am: What would happen if Ringo Starr, Paul Mc Cartney, Skid Roper and Tom Cat Courtney came clandestinely as a joke and billed themselves as “The Meatles” and played
each others songs for about an hour or two?
