First Cuppa Coffee – March 13th, 2012 : Can I Haz Catz? Edition

Do you haz ideas?…  The “gee whiz” consultants at the GOP have apparently run short of ideas to use in attacking democrats. So they’re dispatched one Rick Santorum to test market a blistering attack on Teleprompters. Check out this flamin’ rhetoric: “…when you run for president of the United States, it should be illegal to read off a TelePrompter..”

Did he fail the Issa ezam?  Twenty one year old parolee Steven Mulhall thought he was being real smart when he stole the nameplate off a judge’s courthouse office-door, then posed with it for a photo, which his girl friend promptly posted to Facebook.  Apparently he missed the Issa lecture on not screwing up when you’re young and dumb, because those clever law enforcement types saw the picture on Facebook and arrested him.  (HT/ Boing Boing)

Do you haz a Rite Wing math calculator?… The righties have got their undies all twisted up in a knot after reading a story in the Washington Post about how a $50 guberment (sic) subsidized light bulb costs more to use than a $1 incandescent bulb. Bloggers at Michelle Malkin, Gateway Pundit and Pirates Cove among others went into the attack mode right away…  “It’s an Obama World… Gas Reaches $5 a Gallon & “Green” Light Bulbs Cost You $50 Each.” “The same people who can afford to drive a Volt (and have the limo pick them up when it runs out of charge) will be the ones purchasing this idiocy,” American Enterprise Institute scholar Kenneth Green blasted the “Ludicrous Prize” as one of “epic energy-failures.” At Ricochet, George W. Bush speechwriter Troy Senik asks, “What lost? A bulb powered by the hoof beats of unicorns?” There was just one teensy little problem: The Washington Post screwed up their math, understating the cost of electricity by ten-fold… the paper fixed its error… of course, the bloggers, not so much.

Is the Goat Headz attacking OBKPBS has a heart warming story up today about a 73 year old man’s war on Goatshead (aka Emex Spinosa), a really nasty weed with sharp spines, that’s banned in most states (including California) but has apparently ignored these laws and invaded Ocean Beach. Perhaps he can persuade Carl DeMaio to get some of his volunteer corps to stop the spread of Goatshead to Fiesta Island…

Iz we high yet?  Andrew Sullivan over at the Daily Beast has unearthed Department of Justice documents that reveal just how much marijuana it would take to cause an overdose.

…[A] marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. … A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response.

The New York Timze says it’s tru...  A story in yesterday’s Times starts out in San Diego as it explores the phenomena of “centrist” women fleeing the GOP with a picture of the March 8th rally at the Federal Courthouse…  Money Quote:

A rally for women’s rights in San Diego on Thursday drew Jessica Lopez, 27, a registered independent who said she voted for President George W. Bush in 2004. Ms. Lopez said her choice this year became clear amid the Republican debate on contraception and abortion. “This has really energized me, that I need to get more involved with the Obama campaign,” she said.  Ms. Lopez added: “The G.O.P. has never been so clear about their agenda for women. I’m afraid if we get a Republican president, my health will be up to their personal discretion.”
