Marine Sgt. Manny Loggins.
If you have been following the story of the unarmed Marine sergeant gunned down in front of his two daughters last February up in San Clemente, there is some more news and information about the case.
The latest ugly info about this horrific and ugly incident is that Sgt Manny Loggins’ daughters were incarcerated for 13 hours without contact with their mother – this after watching their father being shot in front of them.
Not only that, but a claim that the family is filing against the Sheriffs states that Sgt. Loggins was shot multiple times. Also, Loggins’ wife, Phoebe, who was pregnant at the time of the shooting, just had her baby last Sunday.
You may recall that Sgt. Loggins had taken his two daughters, aged 9 and 14, with him to the San Clemente High School athletic field – which he often did. But on February 7th – he was confronted by an Orange County Deputy – Darren Sandberg – who then gave Loggins orders – which according to the Sheriffs – Loggins refused.

The deputy shot and killed Loggins right there in front of his daughters. The “why” has varied over time.
But just recently, the family has hired an attorney and has filed the necessary legal notice that they will be filing a wrongful death suit against the Sheriff’s Department and the deputy. The claim was filed naming Sandberg and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on behalf of Loggins’ wife, Phoebe Loggins, four children identified by initials, and the estate of Manuel Loggins.

For 13 hours after they watched an Orange County sheriff’s deputy fatally shoot their father, the traumatized daughters of Marine Sgt. Manuel Loggins were held for questioning and not allowed to join their mother, according to the lawyer representing the Loggins family.
“They just basically incarcerated them,” attorney Brian T. Dunn said Wednesday, one month after the shooting in a darkened parking lot at San Clemente High School. …
The girls were held at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and not allowed to see their mother until 6 p.m. that day, Dunn said, describing the treatment as a form of “false imprisonment.” “They had games for them to play, but they wouldn’t let them go,” Dunn said. “They probably kept asking them over and over and over what was going on till they got the answer they wanted.”
The Camp Pendleton Patch adds that in their claim, the family allege that Loggis was lawfully sitting in his SUV, making no threatening movements when he was shot.
“At no time … did Sgt. Manuel Loggins Jr. pose any reasonable threat of violence to the involved deputy, nor did he do anything to justify the use of deadly force against him,” the claim states.
The Patch quotes the family’s attorney:
“That’s classic false imprisonment,” said Attorney Brian T. Dunn of the Cochran Firm. “They were intentionally secreted away.”
Dunn said the girls were told only their father was at the hospital, Dunn said, though OC Fire Authority spokesman Marc Stone told Patch shortly after the shooting that Loggins died almost immediately.
Also outlined in the claim was that Loggins was shot multiple times — “at least two, maybe three,” Dunn said.

You know, I have said this before. I am not aware of any cop being disciplined for any killing or brutality. Isn’t it time to start kicking a.s?

There are constant instances of police murder, police brutality, police incompetency and indifference all over the news. They are being made into a militarized force for the right wing. They break the laws constantly, and very little, if anything, is done. We have to change this, all over the country. Yes, there are good cops – protecting their rotten cohorts as part of the “code”. That makes them as guilty as the ones who commit criminal deeds, unfortunately.

Cops all over the country are becoming militarized, using grant money from the “Stimulus Bills”, US DHS and the DoD, to train and equip as a military force, but it’s not by the “…right wing…” but rather it’s by the liberal, progressive, communist, socialist statists that are doing it. Remember Obama’s promise to create “…a civilian force just as well funded, just as well equipped as the military…”? Well, it looks like he’s done exactly what he said he would. As yourself, why would the statists want to militarize the police across the country? Answer is this. The US military is almost exclusively horrified at by the coup this regime has executed and eventually will turn on him and he knew it long ago that he wouldn’t be able to count on them. But the police, many of which are true patriots and OathKeepers, are dominated by labor unions like SEIU and others. Labor unions are controlled by the communists and support the regime. Therefore, the regime knows when the SHTF, these are the guys they will have to depend upon, so naturally, they set out to fund, train and equip them to be better able to carry out the regime’s evil plans. It’s really that simple.

This story saddens and sickens me to my core. It is so obvious that something unscrupulous took place. It is so obvious that Darren Trigger-Happy Sandberg is guilty of the use of excessive violence, if not just plain outright murder. It is so obvious that the Sheriff’s Department handled this case poorly, forcing those poor girls to experience even more trauma.
I feel the same way that I felt about the Rebecca Zahau murder – er, excuse me, “suicide” – at the Sprekels Mansion. Something is not right and no one in the position of power really seems to care. Can our system really be so thoroughly broken?

They would rip a case like this apart, quickly establishing doubts, reasonable factual doubts about just who the criminal (s) and the victim (s) actually are.
This killing and the attempted cover, continues to be a major point of interest for many concerned and sympathetic citizens, including Brother Loggis’s military co-workers and other Brothers in Arms. Early on, the unit Commanding Officer, at Camp Pendleton refuted the usual character assassination accompanying most questionable cop slayings. He lauded his Sargent as a decent, highly intelligent and compassionate man. It’s clear, this Marine will not be left behind. That’s some comfort. Notice the silence from all those politicians endlessly praising service people?

This time the “black man” was a marine. ” This might be harder to cover up. The brotherhood and sisterhood of the Armed Forces is vast and strong. And “holding” and questioning children without charging them with a crime, or contacting social services or the parent is unconscionable. Juvenile laws in California are vague and lean heavily towards favoring the police and their interrogation and detention practices. No constitutional rights for children to have parents present during questioning and the police get around Miranda by not reading them their rights, then getting the incriminating information, and then reading the Miranda rights and asking the child the same questions that were already asked earlier.
What stuns and amazes me is the “powers that be” brush off their crimes as though we do not have a right to challenge them. Just another day at the donut shop. Well, I’m sorry. I know it must be hard on the ones that do not engage in wrongful activity that have to live with them. But then again, I have lost two jobs as an RN for what the California Board of Nursing requires: If you, as a mandated reporter, do not report neglect, abuse, and dangerous care to a patient, you lose your license and receive a misdemeanor. But guess what? When I reported certain dangerous care to HHS, both times I received letters that what I reported was upheld upon investigation by the State. Further, there appears to be no law that protects whistleblowers. Same thing with law enforcement. I could not live with myself, not just because of following the Nurse Practice, but I would rather be without a job than some that look the other way. It is so sad that it is this way.

Unfortunately for many people, losing their job would be just too much of a hardship. I can’t blame them in those cases for looking the other way. Sadly, this is a problem that I don’t think will ever get better.
You’re correct about the lack of rights for juvenile suspects, but this is a very different situation – the children were questioned as bystanders/witnesses, and the law is very clear in this situation – the children’s guardian should have been contacted immediately and the children turned over to CPS in the interim.
The family has an excellent case for the tort of false imprisonment- this is an open and shut case. The cops intentionally kept the girls in a particular area, where they were not free to leave.
Under California law, false imprisonment is the ‘nonconsensual, intentional confinement of a person, without lawful privilege, for an appreciable length of time, however short.’ </b. Fermino v. Fedco, Inc., 872 P.2d 559, 567 (Cal.'94) (quoting Molko v. Holy Spirit Ass'n, 762 P.2d 46, 63 (Cal.'88)). A false imprisonment action may also be maintained if 'the defendant unlawfully detains the [plaintiff] for an unreasonable period of time' after an otherwise legal seizure or arrest. Lincoln v. Grazer, 329 P.2d 928, 30 (Cal.Ct.App.'58).

Agree, the childrens mother should have been contacted immediately. This is a very glaring wrong. What I would like to know, just WHY did they not do this? What was their motivation? Did they think they were going to get incriminating evidence from the children, or did they think they were “protecting” the children? I mean, they had already killed their father. What in the hell were they thinking, that the children were safer being terroized in their custody instead of the mother? The childrens greatest need at this time was to have their mother. This is just incredible. I hope these nuts sans brain do not have children of their own. It appears the only training they get is physical and how to brutalize people at their will. There appears to be no teaching of critical thinking when dealing with real human beings. Can you imagine what those children felt? It is very frightening for an adult to be incarcerated. What horrific effects do you think it will it have on these young, still very impressionable children. Even after all of what I have seen and heard, I am stunned.
This is pure speculation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it becuase they wanted to extract information from the children that would somehow justify the murder.
If this is true, they were probably asking questions about, narcotics use in the home or by their dad, domestic violence issues, and worst of all – they may have spent a lot of time trying to extract a statement from the girls that supported the officer’s version of events.
Very, very sad. Those poor children must have been so scared and traumatized. I cannot imagine what it would be like to see your father shot to death in front of you, in such close proximity. Absolutely horrifying.
One of the things I wonder about when the police remarked that the children said their “father was acting oddly.” Is this the vocabulary of very young children? Does any other interaction occur? Just out of the blue and then dropped?
Another thing I was thinking about. Isn’t there some kind of law that children of a certain age cannot testify. I have read in the past how it was not allowed because the children were not reliable in their testimonies because of psychologists just by asking certain (same) questions over and over, in time the child takes in what they are told?
You know what I find interesting? Its that the actual reasoning for the man having been shot. Either way, despite the reasoning, there is given a privacy policy. Highly disturbed parents use this policy to cover up their childs’ abuse. Why is it that a military man and his children cannot use the same policy and what is this deputy afraid of? I’m just not sure what to say because nothing is proven justified from either side. However, I find it extremely unprofession to shoot a man in front of his children, with or without a badge.
It is outrageous that Police carry out these murders. And that is what they are. The reality is many Police form the largest and deadliest gang in the world.
I served in the Global War on Terror (Australian working for US DoD) and I never cease to be amazed by the number and types of weapons carried by Police. They carry more weapons and ammo on them than many of us in a CT function carried in Baghdad … I carried a Glock 19 down the back of my pants and one spare mag.

The Cowardice behavior of this deputy is totally unacceptable. He should be fired. And the deputy and others that have covered up the truth should be brougth to justice with felony charges.

Smelled a rat and knew something was dreadfully wrong when I went to drop my son off at the school the day of the shooting. Too many problems with the story that was already being leaked as “truth”. Feel horrified for the family and our county that we allow the good old’ boys club to murder people in front of their children and call it justified. Fire this nimrod!!! Sad thing is, I know this ” officer” and his family as well. I still say fire him!!! Incarcerate him!!! Did he really know the children were there? I’m thinking no, not until after they started screaming cause officer probably scared them to death. Also wondering if other officers were really there or is that the cover up story? Sadly, not enough justice will occur no matter what happens in this case. A family lost their father.
Cp Pendelton’s CO should declare all businesses off limits to his marines! And anyone in this community should shun this murdering psychopath. Don’t sell him anything! His uniform is pressed. I’m sure he likes a meal out with family. Probably likes a drink with buddies after work. Refuse service to him and his entourage. Doont make excuses, don’t explain. Eventually he’ll become a pariah.
