Vigil and Silent March

Unemployment insurance is set to expire on December 31, 2011. If Congress doesn’t act before the end of the year, the lifeline for jobless families and local economies that are already struggling will be cut-off.
We hope you will join us on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. to help ensure that this doesn’t happen. The San Diego Labor Council, along with our affiliated unions and the Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice (ICWJ), will be holding events as part of a nationwide effort to bring attention to the need to extend unemployment insurance.
We have planned delegation visits to our Congressional members here in San Diego during the day, and are planning a large candlelight vigil for the unemployed that day. The vigil and silent march will start at the Civic Center – in Downtown San Diego at 5 p.m.

I am one of the 99er’s. But I will be there.
I hope we march past the Grant Hotel where the GOP-dominated Lincoln Club is holding their “Occupy Christmas” shindig, mocking the occupy Wall Street movement. Figures.

Sorry to say that this is somewhat funny–occupiers caring about those that have lost their jobs. You protested the bank bailouts, which kept probably millions of people in their jobs. You protested spending at WalMart, and yet spending money (even on a credit card) keeps people employed in stores. This leaderless movement isn’t having much of an effect on congress given the voting results today in congress. You really need to get a leader and start being mature in your approach. The only press you get is when you break the laws and get arrested.
