In a sweet victory for Ocean Beach, the California Coastal Commission just this afternoon granted OB planners who attended today’s hearing in Huntington Beach a continuance before the Commission votes on the Ocean Park Villas condo project. The continuance will allow a full public hearing on the revised project by the OB Planning Board.
Due to the efforts of Planning Board members Craig Klein, Tom Gawronski and Giovanni Ignolia, the Commission put off their decision of whether to grant an amendment to the current Coastal Development Permit that had been granted the original project. But since the project has had a drastic re-design, no public review had been held on the revised plans. Plus local planners had complained about the lack of a public review process at the community level.
This is a victory, small perhaps, but a victory nevertheless. Only because these planners took the day off and traveled up to the Coastal Commission’s hearing and sat for the entire agenda, did OB received this continuance. Coastal staff had in fact recommended approval of the amendment – which would have allowed the applicant to proceed with construction of the 10-unit condo project without any public review of it here in Ocean Beach.
The Project Review Committee will meet on the project on October 19th, and the full Board will meet on it at their November 2nd general meeting.
Personal thanks to Gio, Craig, and Tom – good job, guys!!!!!!!!

So who attended the meeting in Huntington Beach ?
Thanks to those who drove up to Huntington Beach and attended meeting today. This is good news.
WoW ! Way to go, guys. Small victory my ass. stopping construction on a project the village doesn’t desire is a major victory, imho. what ideas are available for alternative solutions to this project they proposed? keeping it under 30′? complying with the current FAR? individual cottages with a central garden? Solar units with garden roofs? at least giving the right-of-way to the beach back to the community would be a grand gesture on their part.
Fantastic!! Thank you SO much guys for making the time to go to Huntington Beach. Where would we be without people who are engaged in our community.
These guys: Tom Gawronski, Craig Klein and Gio Ingolia deserve a hearty round of applause and thanks from the community.
I 2nd that!
Thanks guys for a great job. Thank you Coastal Commission for allowing community input on this important beach site in O.B.
