Welcome Our New Sponsors – They Help Keep Our Screen Glowing

in Culture, Ocean Beach

We would like to welcome four new sponsors to the pages of the OB Rag. Without these sponsors and the other businesses and merchants that have helped us out since the Fall of 2009 – when we first started taking on ads and sponsors – we couldn’t keep the lights on here at our office and you wouldn’t be reading this now. So, please check them out, click on their logos, go to their websites, and visit them in Ocean Beach. And tell them that you saw their ad on the OB Rag.  That helps us, it helps them, it may help you and we all feel good.  (Go to their ads on our sidebar for actual links.)

Dog Beach Dog Wash

This mainstay of the OB community is pretty famous, around here and around San Diego. Mindy and Jane have been running this very friendly dog wash storefront full of goodies for all dogs, great and small, for over two decades.  Their beach clean-ups at Dog Beach are legend; they supply all the bags themselves, pay their employees to help organize these events, and have paid their dues to our village twelvefold.  Plus, Mindy has been on every park and rec advisory board imaginable, spent half a decade or more on the OB Planning Board, and is chair of the OB Plan Update process.

Luna Video Games

Voted best game store by a local TV station, Luna Video Games has been a community treasure on Voltaire Street for years. Quietly, Treg has moved this OB store and his other place out near SDSU into the cutting edge of the video gaming world.  His unassuming storefront belies the popularity that his shop enjoys and the success that he has achieved. If you’re into vid games, this is the place to be.  Check this place out if you never have.

Surf Rider Pizza Cafe

The Surf Ride pizza is the only pizza you can get on Abbott Street, and it’s definitely worth your attention.  This fairly new business in northwest OB not only makes delicious pizza but also eye-popping and mouth-watering cream cheese brownies and chocolate cupcakes – all baked on site.  Hillary and Rachel have improved the interior, replenished the outside seating, and have filled their showcases with goodies that will stop you in your tracks.  Us old timers remember the delightful Point Loma Bakery that used to fill this storefront at the corner of Abbott and Muir, and this new place has returned the culinary vigor that we used to enjoy there.  Go inside if you dare.

Smart Clip Salon

Ocean Beach’s newest hair salon just opened on Newport Avenue – in the old Paladin Video site.  I mean just opened – like last weekend (May 7th). The wonderful changes that George and Rimi have wrought inside will blow your mind – the colors, the plush surroundings, the obvious expense  – will make you forget where you are.  They have room for 7 chairs and are starting out with 3 to 4.  Coupons are offered for a price cut – go to their website inside our pages.  Visit them and welcome them to the village.

Nice to see Luna as a sponsor, I love them!

The staff is very friendly, and seem genuinely interested in what they are selling. And they have good prices on used games.

It’s not an impersonal rip off like the big chains, and no one who works there has ever assumed I didn’t know about games because I was female, what has happened more than once at Game Stop.

These new sponsors are so great to see. Do they actually offer deals to “locals”?
