END THE WARS!
Saturday, March 19, 2011
12:00 pm – 3:30 pm
6th Ave. & Grape St, Balboa Park, San Diego
19 reasons why we will be out on March 19:
1. Because the US wars and occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan are wrong
2. Because they are wars for oil and for empire, based on lies
3. Because nine Afghan boys were murdered by a US helicopter gunship while collecting firewood last week
4. Because we need jobs, housing, healthcare and education, not $1.2 trillion a year spent on war
5. Because our youth are forced to join the military, the poverty draft, when they cannot find other work
6. Because we stand in solidarity with the uprisings of the Arab people, and oppose US intervention
7. Because we stand in solidarity with the public workers in Wisconsin, in Indiana, in Ohio, and in San Diego
8. Because Palestine must be free
9. Because another world is possible
10. Because if we do not stand for peace and justice, who will?
11. Because Bradley Manning is abused and in solitary confinement, allegedly for leaking the truth
12. Because the politicians won’t listen until we mobilize for direct action
13. Because we condemn the attacks on Muslims, Arabs and immigrants in our country and elsewhere
14. Because we want our troops out now
15. Because 9/11 was always just an excuse
16. Because Bush’s wars are now Obama’s wars
17. Because the US supports corrupt dictators
18. Because there are no good empires
19. Because on March 19 we will join together with others who defend peace and social justice, to support and learn from one another, and to help spread the word
What are your reasons?
12:00pm – 2:00pm

“7. Because we stand in solidarity with the public workers in Wisconsin, in Indiana, in Ohio, and in San Diego”
OK maybe I’m being naive here and not getting the point, but isn’t that a little off topic? I’d be willing the bet that the public workers in Wisconsin and everywhere else all have differing opinions amongst themselves about the wars. Please correct me if that’s the case.
Perhpas we could line item veto particular aspects of the protest….
I agree, sometimes the reasoning behind the protests get a bit too in depth…or er, esoteric? But then it is a coalition of groups, and perhaps the one small off topic item was a way to bring in a larger coalition.
Regardless, for whatever the reason, the message is clear…
End U.S. Involvement in Foreign Aggression, Now.
Peace, Jack
The moral and fiscal impact of the wars (does Libya now count as a war too?) and the Great Recession upon the working class, middle class and the poor is the overarching issue that unites us. The working class, middle class and the poor are being targeted to assume the onerous fiscal burden that the war & recession have created. That is neither esoteric or a side issue. And the majority of people in this country are against the wars.
Goatshull, Jack and annagrace: It is important for us to draw the links between the seemingly bankrupt society we live in today with the wars that we are funding. However, I agree with Michael Moore, the US is NOT broke, the money is still there, it’s just been moved around. If we don’t challenge the Empire, our democracy will be forever broken.
Yeah, line item veto on protest slogans, haha. I have always thought that including the Israel-Palestine demand into our anti-war protests watered down the focus on Iraq and Afghanistan. Our troops are not in Israel although our money certainly is.
And no, I don’t think the Libya crisis is another “war” for us. At the pleading and insistence of the Arab League – which threw out Libya years ago – the international community is moving to perhaps save what’s left of the opposition in Libya, and stave off a massacre. Obama and Clinton have made it clear that the US is taking a supporting role, not leading the international effort.
It was a real American pride era when so many protested the Vietnam War. However to a few generations lazy enough in the mind and body not to have been protesting TWO obvious illegal wars, then falling for the LIE that the war on terror was real, it is not going to do a heck of a lot to protest in Balboa Park. Remember there is no more American media to promote protest.
