If you haven’t checked out Google Art Project yet, you’re in for a treat. The site uses a technology similar to “street view” to enable virtual strolls through the halls and rooms of 17 famous art museums, from London’s National Gallery to Madrid’s Museo Reina Sofia to New York’s MoMA.

Recently, while using Art Project to poke around a few museums, I was amazed to realize that at least a half-dozen of the masterpieces I saw had to have been inspired by Ocean Beach.

I’m not sure if these artists actually came to Ocean Beach, or if they only visited in their imagination. But when I saw these paintings hanging among the art world’s classics, I had to share them with The OB Rag:

Vincent Van Gogh: "Charming beach cottage yours for $500,000"

Vincent Van Gogh: "Charming beach cottage yours for just $500,000"

Johann Peter Hasenclever: "Planning Board hard at work"

Johann Peter Hasenclever: "Planning Board contemplates variance"

William Dyce: "P.B. after booze ban"

William Dyce: "Beach scene different since booze ban"

Jean Etienne Lìotard: "Met her last night at Winston's; now she won't leave"

Jean Etienne Lìotard: "Met her last night at Winston's and now she won't leave"

John Everett Milllais: "The flood control is lovely in spring"

John Everett Milllais: "Springtime frolic in the flood control"

William Blake: "typical night at the VFW"

William Blake: "VFW patron"

Antonio del Pollaiolo: "Gormlie versus the Tea Party"

Antonio del Pollaiolo: "Gormlie vs. the Tea Party"

This was a truly delightful tour. . .I occasionally receive visits from Blake, and will make sure he logs on while here. . .
