UPDATE:  Yes, there is an archaeology dig going on at this site – the site of the new entryway project at Sunset Cliffs and W.Pt. Loma.

It is part of the environmental requirements by the State of California. It doesn’t mean there is anything there of “value” – just it is mandated by the eco-rules.  This is so, according to Elif E. Cetin, the project manager, from the City of San Diego Engineering and Capital Projects Department.

We have been alerted by several readers that it appears to be something like an archaeology dig going on at the new entryway project site, at the corner of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. and W.Pt. Loma Ave.

There is a truck with “Laguna Mountains Environmental Inc – Archaeology” written on it, one reader has informed us. Plus, “there were some people in the construction area doing some sifting with wire mesh boxes – the kind of thing archaeologists do during digs.”

Sent the story to my mom – she knows literally everyone (all hundred or so permanent residents) in Mt. Laguna, hopefully she’ll have some idea who’s doing the digging…

I was going to post this….I chuckled when I drove by this morning. They were digging in the corner closest to the road. Do you know how many thousands of cars drive by that location daily? And how many nuts, bolts, cig, change, glass, rubber (from tires & people) bottle caps land in that location every month. I’d imagine they need to dig a bit deeper than the top few inches to find anything of value.

2304 Sunset Cliffs is designated as, Ocean Beach Gateway archaeological site on the City of San Diegos web-site. Due to Native American activities in the area.
