Sheriff Joe Arpaio – whom some call “America’s most racist cop” – is set to speak tonight, Thursday, Jan. 20th, at the Mission Valley Marriott. Protesters are planning a large-scale event to greet him.
Arpaio gained notoriety because of his policies as sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona. Against federal laws, he demanded that his deputies be used to conduct raids against undocumented immigrants, in what many Mexican-Americans and civil libertarians consider adding fire to local tensions about immigration. Many saw it as a racist practice to do so.
He also has forced inmates to live in prison tents in the often 100 degree plus temperatures in Arizona. Last August in north San Diego County, Arpaio taunted a group of protesters by walking right up to them.

In light of the recent violence in Tucson, Ariz., San Diego police are working with a local hotel to increase police presence at an event with controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio Thursday night.
The Maricopa County sheriff who has been called “the nation’s toughest sheriff” walked up to a line of more than 100 protesters when he spoke at a gathering in the North County last August.
Arpaio is expected to speak before 1,000 people Thursday night at the Mission Valley Marriott.
Opponents have been using Twitter to organize a large-scale protest.
Arpaio says, they can protest all they want, as long as it’s peaceful.
Arpaio received national attention for using deputies to conduct frequent raids to catch illegal immigrants and for building large prison tents to house inmates

The Zonie outlet for Faux news is reporting the demonstration against Apraio as a “threat” being made via “social media”.
I read somewhere that Arpaio is an Italian name. It is not in wide use. The Arpaios that are in the US seem to have come from Naples. (oh well).
I wonder what time this event starts, I’d be courious to see what he has to say.
