San Diego police are laying out their summer staffing plans for the city’s beach areas. Starting this Friday with the Memorial Day weekend crowds, San Diegans will see a lot more officers near the coast.
“You know, when it’s summertime and there’s more people, there’s more opportunity for problems,” Mission Beach resident Dave Cummings said.
Huge crowds at Mission and Pacific beaches — a summer staple, especially during the big three weekends of Memorial Day, Labor Day and Fourth of July — will be keeping police on their toes.

Finally, their focus will be on the people who are actually causing problems rather than the innocent people who’s “looks” give them personal resins to attack us…

yeah, it’s great, since the beach booze ban, there are no more fights, no more drinking, just happy little families all over the place. Oh….excuse me, I have to go chase the drunks out from underneath my car-port. They just got into a fight and littered all over my alley-way and barfed inside my car. But really,the beach booze ban worked. Best plan ever. People just stopped causing trouble. It’s magical.
Well Jon, With AZ boycotting us maybe you’ll see less of that!

Not like the ban has made the cliffs so shady over the last couple years that I don’t feel comfortable taking my daughter the long way home from school (/sarcasm).
Jon you got it. Thanks to Kevin and the DO-GOOD people we no longer have to watch a newly wed couple sipping a plastic glass of wine on the beach at sunset. The town council no longer meets under the life guard towers at the end of Brighton. It should be another fun DRY summer on the BEACHES.
Ocean Beach–Where else could we watch police taser naked people, shoot dogs and arrest anyone with a backpack or a skateboard while being protected from any marauding panga’s coming on shore by the Big Brother Eye In the Sky?
Not just Big Brother Eye in the Sky either. Apparently SDPD (also Poway Sheriffs) now have another fascinating new policy. They stop you for something (or nothing) check your I.D. and then TAKE YOUR PICTURE. SMILE!! You’re in the great data base in the Sky.
Hey Pat – we need more info on that. It’s unconstitutional for police to stop a citizen without reasonable cause. SDPD used to have the Field Interrogation policy where they would stop people – mostly young people and minorities – for no legal reason. It was overturned as a policy as unconstitutional.
A few weeks ago I overheard a police officer talking to one of the more unruly groups of wall-dwellers as he cuffed one of them and took him into custody. The crowd was chanting and yelling that the cop couldn’t just arrest someone for no reason. The cop explained that they were taking the guy downtown because he did not have identification to prove he was who he said he was and that, once they got him downtown, he could prove his identity they would release him.
When they put him in cuffs into the back of the car they then had a discussion about having to search his backpack before they put it in the car, ’cause it wasn’t safe to put it in there unsearched.
The cop kept saying that the guy was not being arrested they just needed to make sure he was who he said he was. Sure enough, later that day I saw the guy, back on the wall with his buddies.
I don’t understand the law, apparently, ’cause I thought we were allowed to be out and about on the streets w/o identification.
Silly me.
That sounds like it was totally illegal. If someone’s freedom is curtailed by law enforcement – that’s an arrest if it lasts longer than a few moments. One cannot be arrested without probable cause – a legal determination. One can be stopped and patted down only for weapons but not arrested. Being taken away in a patrol car IS AN ARREST no matter what you call it.

Hey Sarah, you will find this amusing…..so the wall dwellers gave the cops a taste of their own medicine….I heard a rumor that they put a note on the police paddy wagon that was parked for more then 2 hrs in loading/offloading in the pier parking lot that said, “We the people are giving you a citation for illegally parking for more then 2 hrs in loading/offloading area.” I was told they wrote something to the effect of “take it easy” and “pay it forward by letting someone else go.”
I totally miss the days when there was 30 drunk people on the wall and on the beach in front of it at 10 in the morning.Can we please bring those days back.It just isn’t quite the same around here anymore.My morning cup of coffee is far too quiet
