Rep. Duncan Hunter backs deporting U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants
At a recent Tea Party meeting in Ramona, Rep Duncan Hunter stated that he supported the deportation of children born in the US to undocumented migrants. Is he racist or maybe he just doesn’t know what the Constitution states?
Section 1, Clause 1 of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution, states:
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

Looks like the immigration debate is back.
First, it was the Arizona law that has spurred some California Democrats to call for a boycott of the state. Now, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Alpine) says the federal government should deport U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants.
“Would you support deportation of natural-born American citizens that are the children of illegal aliens,” Hunter was asked. “I would have to, yes,” Hunter said. “… We simply cannot afford what we’re doing right now,” he said. “… It takes more than just walking across the border to become an American citizen. It’s what’s in our souls. …”
Hunter made his comments at a “tea party” rally in the San Diego County city of Ramona over the weekend.

He might not be ignorant. He might just be one of those people that thinks the framers of the 14th Amendment wanted to insure the citizenship of the children of freed slaves. Folks with the opposing point of view think that citizenship should be granted to the children of people that entered our country illegally to work for slave wages.

I wasn’t trying to be funny, or fool anyone. I was simply answering the question at the top of the page, and my answer is that he might not be ignorant.
I’m not sure what David is saying in his remarks about context, but he might be objecting to the brevity of the LA Times article….ten sentences and a 3 minute video. Entire books are written about the 14th Amendment, and pipe-smoking Humanists have been know to remain seated in their leather armchairs for several days while discussing the subject. At least the OB Rag mentioned the 14th Amendment, but not in the context of post Civil War politics (and the 13th Amendment.) Also worth noting that it was a half century after the 14th Amendment before all Native Americans finally became citizens at birth. An informative article on citizenship might also include recent changes to Irish law as an example of how these laws can and do get changed. A child born in Ireland is a citizen at birth only if at least one of his or her parents is an Irish citizen. One parent could be from the planet Rillispore, and the child could still be a citizen at birth. I fully expect the interpretation of citizenship to be a serious topic during Obama’s presidency. And I won’t be surprised to see him join forces with his old political nemesis Panama Red (John Mccain.)
Ahhh, looks like you didn’t listen or read his comments very closely. Sorry to inform you but you apologist position for Hunter doesn’t hold water. This was not taken out of context, unless you believe that when he speaks to the tea party he has a different position just to please them. The fact he was speaking at a tea party rally using racist explanations should have been like a red light going off. Unless of course you are one of the people that makes the claim the tea party aren’t a racist bunch, they are just misunderstood, and it’s all the fault of the media. You might be correct because we all know how the media has been to known to have people at every rally hidden in tents making the signs for the tea party.

Seriously, I wouldn’t necessarily assume that ALL the Tea Partiers are racists.
Certainly they seem to have quite a few, but there are others among them who appear to be genuinely offended by the racist signs & such, and make a point of distancing themselves from it.
I’m leery of assigning personality characteristics to people based on group membership, isn’t that the root of racism?

Seems to me that’s a smokescreen argument. It’s as simple as if the people who are not racists, (and there are probably a few) don’t want to called racists they should just leave the tea party. Doesn’t seem complicated. If they care so much about being labeled racists, if it looks like a duck…

He is ignorant and racist. And occupies a seat specifically gerrymandered to stay GOP. How else can Coronado and Santee be in the same congressional district? Or maybe he just wants to make it clear that he is not his Dad, who was not ignorant but acted like a racist. Got him some national press, after all.
Redneck racists like Hunter want to deport everybody who isn’t white. That’s their real goal. They are fascisst who think that people with white skin should control everybody else.
