Rally, Car Caravan, Music, Bannering, and “Arlington West”

San Diegans and Americans across the country are showing that many of us have not forgotten there’s two wars going on at this minute.  This is at a cost of $400,000,000 EACH DAY for these wars and occupations – while our schools decay, homes are foreclosed, healthcare costs choke families into bankruptcy, and workers go without jobs –

We’re showing up at anti-war actions coast to coast. Here in San Diego, there’s an entire afternoon devoted to showing we haven’t forgotten.  There’s a Car Caravan here in San Diego from 3 to 5 pm, and rally from 1 to 3, bannering downtown, and an Arlington West.  Read on.

“healthcare, not warfare; jobs and education, not wars and occupation”

This is the final call to participate on SATURDAY, MARCH 20, here in San Diego, on behalf of PEACE –

  • 1-3 PM: meet up at the parking lot EAST of Park Blvd. and President’s Way, Balboa Park (map attached); enjoy poet-musician Al Howard and Erik Canzona of “The Heavy Guilt,” decorate your vehicle with peace flags and decorations (specially-made car flags and decorating car paint to be provided for modest donation, and/or bring your own)
  • 3-5 PM: CAR CARAVAN for PEACE, designated route along San Diego streets, following SDCPJ lead vehicle – MAKE RIGHTEOUS NOISE for peace
  • 5-6 PM: Street demonstration and PEACE BANNERING at Broadway and Harbor Drive, downtown San Diego
  • 6 PM: Veterans for Peace “Arlington West” display commemorating the war dead, followed by candlelight vigil in observation of those who have died, near the Midway Carrier on Harbor Drive

The day’s actions are being sponsored and coordinated by San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justicewww.sdcpj.org

If you are someone who has complained in the recent past about the lack of money for schools, healthcare, roads, potholes, local government, parks, libraries, yes even cops’ horses, cellphones or our fire pits – YOU MUSt understand what these wars are doing with our monies. Over $3 Trillion has been spent of our money on these wars. So, now, even if you voted for Obama, you need to stand up (or in this case, sit in your car) for peace.

What if you’re car’s horn isn’t very loud? (Mine is more of a squeak) Will those handheld marina foghorns be allowed?

The SD Union-Tribune announced Saturday’s tea party protest http://bit.ly/bKArJj but not the peace rallies. Should this be surprising?

And why would they report on a party in the park? This protest id made by obedient children of empire that need to ask permission to use a bullhorn. Get the picture?

George,

The San Diego Union-Tribune did write a story about this on Thursday. You must have missed it. To read it, go to: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/mar/18/demonstrators-to-mark-seventh-anniversary-of-iraq/

Rob, thanks for pointing that out. Yet, your signon post was inadequate, because, unlike the short piece on the tea party event, it was not specific enough in locations: it did not say where the car caravan was going to begin, and did not say where it was to travel, and the article did not say anything about the rally from 1 to 3.

@Robert I’m sorry I missed that. That’s two mistakes now. :-(
