EF the EFing tourists! Whatever happened to the Kite Festival and the community surrounding it? Only 3 years ago (see Beacon 2/22/07, pg. 1) the OBMA was forced to back down by a community outraged! Withdrawing its support for the 59th Kite Festival in 2007 because the city was going to ticket and tow cars on Newport the Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association caused the festival to be canceled. Only after the People forced the OBMA to back down did the festival parade continue on Newport. Now the 62nd parade was rerouted to Santa Monica and not a peep from my peeps. The parade and kite fly was as dud from what I heard and yeah, maybe the weather had something to do about it but I think it’s worth noticing that another slice of community character is going down the tubes because of self interests and nobody seems to care much less give a damn.
