It’s our blog birthday! Our very first post was published on the 25th of October last year. It’s been quite an amazing journey for us and we have seen a great increase in readership and interest.
After meeting Frank last year, seeing the old OB Rags and hearing the passion in his voice when he spoke about it, I started pestering him to start a website with the same name. Having had some experience with blogs and WordPress myself, I registered the domain obrag.org and told him it would be there when he was ready to start writing again.
His first post was born out of the firestorms of last fall, a critique of the local media coverage of the fires that seemed to be swallowing the county. We had, only days before, sat on the edge of Sweetwater Reservoir and watched the flames creep over Mount San Miguel and burn towards my mother’s house.
Since then we have learned a lot, published hundreds of articles and history pages, been able to connect with many different people, have included posts from other writers and continue to grow. We hope to continue to fill in the gaps, covering issues, past and present, that the San Diego corporate media ignores or simply refuses to report.
In the very near future watch for us to roll out our new format (bear with us as we work out the kinks) which should include some features more directly aimed at local issues and readership. We value your readership, support and input and look forward to getting to know you all better!

Terry, dougbob, Fresh guy, thanks; we made it through our first year – amazing!
We did have a little birthday party last night – a short business meeting capped by a dessert pot-luck. Friends and supporters showed up – thanks Monty, Doug, Jon & Sally, Gregg, Genie, Mike & Michele, Stu & Denise.
We have some plans for the next year – a new format – slightly changed – you’ll still recognize the ol OB Rag, don’t worry; but we’re also planning to have ads, and hopefully more local content.
Since we began one year ago, our readership has jumped 300% – we had over 4500 visitors in September.
We’re also encouraging our friends and readers to make comments, comments, comments.
Thanks everyone for supporting us this past year. We’ve had a blast, we’ve learned tons, and we feel part of a growing blog movement that is supplanting mainstream media rapidly.
