The Widder Curry Has Had It with Cox Cable

As I sit here in front of my non-functioning computer for the 5th day in a row, with my hand on my inoperative land line – and cell phone for that matter – I am frustrated beyond words.  And to make matters worse even though I am not a television watcher, my television is not working either!

I can’t begin to tell you how many technicians I have talked to at Cox. Each and everyone has been friendly; each and every one has put up with my increasing irritation; each and every one has offered an adjustment on my bill; and all I want is an explanation and to have the damn thing work.

As I peruse over the comments made on “Next Door” I am not the only person in the neighborhood having this problem.  And I am not the only one that has had the problem for over 5 days.  Yet when I ask Cox what the problem is none of the techs can give me an answer.

In fact, all they can tell me is that there is a “power outage” in the area.  Where?  Why?  My light are working; my gas stove is working.  What is the cause?  Again, no one knows.  When I ask when it will be restored I get a nebulous answer – “maybe about 10:00 or so”.  Ten o’clock in the morning or ten o’clock in the evening.  They don’t know.  So what in the hell is going on?

I don’t know about you but my cell phone is tied directly into the internet.  I keep getting messages that “your mail cannot be received” or “the COX connection is missing” or some such thing.  I’m paying an exorbitant amount of money for a service that doesn’t work.  You know how much of a credit I have been issued?  $14.00.  That doesn’t begin to approach the aggravation, missed deadlines, missed appointments  or overdue notices that I am receiving because of an error that no one knows what is causing it.

I think it is about time that another rebellion take place.  It’s just too bad that AT&T is no better, and, when I priced them they were almost $100 more than I am paying for Cox.  My neighbor has AT&T and seems to have problems with them too.

So what’s the answer?  One of the small independent companies that are just beginning?  Are they reliable?  Do you have to be a computer genius to hook it up?  (I know how to turn on my computer and find a folder.  Do I have to do more than that, because if so, I might be lost!)

But I know I speak for a lot of my neighbors when I say that enough is enough.  Fix the frigging system or get out of the “hood.”

They all suck. The best is Time Warner, but we’re not in a TW footprint. In other words, we can’t get it here in OB.

We finally cut the cable cord and went to a smart TV. Unfortunately, you still need an Internet connection for that, so we went back to Cox. Our Internet is constantly freezing while watching TV.

Living in LA we always had TW. Almost never a problem in 20 yrs using them. Since I moved to OB 9 yrs ago, I’ve been with Cox and AT&T and have had nothing but problems in the several places I’ve lived here.

What’s the solution? Maybe Direct TV? Not sure.

At least Cox gave us several months free service when I complained. Ask for their customer loyalty dept and ask how you can be compensated beyond that ridiculous and paltry $14!

Hi Mercy. I can do without the television, but I can’t do without the internet and that seems to be the problem. It goes out and EVERYTHING

Hi Mercy. I’m really not concerned with the television. I seldom watch anything but news anyway, but when the internet goes out I have a problem. And in the past 10 days it has been out -or slow – more hours that it is working. I can see switching to Direct TV; I can see eliminating the land line – although I would hate to do that – but besides AT&T – (and I had a bad experience with them) what other alternative is there?

Judi, I’m sorry you’re having trouble with Cox. It’s ridiculous. About a year ago, I had a big problem with them. They mistakenly shut off my cable TV, internet, & home phone. It took numerous phone calls to get them all turned back on, one at a time. When they finally turned the phone back on, they had given me another phone number. I had to go through more phone calls & aggravation to get my old phone number back. They didn’t reduce my bill. But they didn’t increase my bill like they were going to. I just found out that my bill has now gone up $35 a month. I’ll have to call them, & I dread it. Like you, I’ve found the Cox employees I talk to are very nice, but it’s very hard to get problems resolved. Fortunately, I have my cell phone through T-Mobile, & I’ve never had any problems with them. For us, their rates were the best. So right now you have no cell phone, home phone, internet, or TV? I’m sorry. That doesn’t seem safe. What would you do if you needed help?

Wow Candy. They really “took you” didn’t they. My cell is with Verizon and have never had any trouble with them, but Cox is something else.

Just get the Mobile Hotspot feature on your smartphone & use it as a portable modem to connect to your devices. Usually the Mobile Hotspot comes free with your phone plan if you have a major carrier. Very reliable & dependable where ever you’re at. I use it all the time & it’s great.

You’re welcome Judi. If you have Verizon which I believe you do, just enable the Mobile Hotspot app. If you don’t have it, just download it to your phone. I use it all the time & it’s very useful. Great internet connection! :)

Wow! You were right. I do have Verizon. That’s eerie to think you knew that…but I am downloading the Verizon as I type this. Thanks for the information.
