Seven Good Reasons to Vote for Dennis Kucinich

Dennis Kucinich is my choice among the democratic candidates based upon his courageous and non-conformist stand on the issues. You can find his stand on the issues at Dennis4President. He addresses the issues of war and peace, civil liberties, universal healthcare, neo-liberalism as manifested by NAFTA and the WTO, renewable NRG, and the need to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights via the civil impeachment procedure against corrupt, dictatorial, and venal war criminals like Bush and Cheney.

Here is a brief summary of Kucinich’s stand on key issues:

1. WAR and PEACE:
   Kucinich has consistently, and from the very beginning, opposed the Iraq war. He voted against refunding the war in the name of “supporting the troops,” knowing full well that such an extension of the war would actually put the troops in greater danger. Kucinich also voted against the “surge.” He offered an Iraq exit strategy as early as 2003. Kucinich now seeks to impeach Cheney to stop a planned war against Iran. (See IMPEACHMENT ISSUE below.)
2. CIVIL LIBERTIES:
   Kucinich is the ONLY candidate who voted against the Patriot Act. He promised to repeal it if elected. Kucinich actually believes in civil liberties as defined in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and has shown us already that he will stand up against the crowd to defend them. He would also restore habeas corpus, stop unwarranted wiretapping, and end the horrible torture and the secret CIA “Rendition” programs that defy all notions of fairness and due process and have soiled the American reputation around the world.
3. UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE:
   His plan for universal health care via a SINGLE PAYER PLAN would remove the big insurance companies from the decision-making process that should belong solely to doctors and their patients. It would also counter inequality by providing health care to the 46 million Americans who currently do not have it.
4. THE ENVIRONMENT – SUSTAINABLE /RENEWABLE ENERGY:
   He is the ONLY candidate whose energy plan consists solely of sustainable energy sources. Kucinich has bravely said “no” to those who argue that nuclear power is a solution to global warming. He has also opposed reliance on “KING COAL” to meet our NRG needs. Some say this is unrealistic. But even more unrealistic is the notion that the US does not need a national renewable energy program supported by the Federal Government.
5. NEOLIBRALISN – NAFTA and WTO:
   Kucinich would cancel NAFTA, and pull the U.S. out of the WTO. He understands what these neo-liberal programs have done to increase worldwide economic inequality. Kucinich has critiqued the environmental damage caused by such unregulated predatory global capitalism.
6. FREE PUBLIC EDUCATION:
   He is the ONLY candidate who has called for a plan to offer free public education from pre-K through college to all Americans. Kucinich knows about the poverty and inequality that has increased as a result of unequal educational opportunities for the poor in a credential society like ours. He would take away the economic barriers that create unequal educational opportunities, and promote an educational policy that would give all individuals the ability to realize their optimal human potential.
7. IMPEACHMENT:
   On Friday November 9, 2007, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) wrote the following letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. (D-MI) in support of H. Res 799, Articles of Impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. Below is the text of the Kucinich letter.

Dear Chairman Conyers:

I am writing in support of H. Res. 799, the Articles of Impeachment which were referred to the committee relative to the Impeachment of the Vice President of the United States of America.

Recent reports indicate that the Vice President is attempting to shape the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran to conform to his misperceptions about the threat Iran actually poses. Much like his deceptive efforts in the lead up to the Iraq war, the Vice President appears to be manipulating intelligence to conform to his beliefs.

If the reports are true, they add additional weight to the case for impeachment. I believe impeachment remains the only tool Congress has to prevent a war in Iran. This information relates directly to the Article III charges in the resolution. I urge your timely consideration.

Impeaching Cheney so that he cannot be President if something happens to Bush is a good idea. The majority of Americans opposed impeaching Clinton, whereas, a July 2007 American Research Group poll found 54 percent of Americans favor impeachment proceedings against Cheney and 45 percent support impeachment of Bush. The poll also showed a majority of democrats around the country supported the impeachment of Cheney. But the party leadership of the Democrats are too afraid to follow this path. The poll can be examined at “the raw story.”

You see, what makes Kucinich different is that he really believes in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. He wants a more equitable society based upon justice and freedom. He knows that we have a corrupt and criminal administration in power that is taking a pair of scissors to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and International Law, and he knows that the same Constitution has provided a civil mechanism for the removal of such a corrupt administration. Unlike Nancy Pelosi, who prematurely took impeachment option “off the table” and got nothing in return, Kucinich has shown the courage to stand up against the conformist and timid Democrats in his own party. He is the only candidate to respect the American people’s wish to see both Cheney and Bush impeached.

Sounds almost like he is an advocate for a egalitarian, peace-loving democracy does it not? Exactly! That is why he gets my vote.
