beach clean up

Hey folks, this Friday 9/11/09 Surfrider Foundation SD is sponsoring a special beach clean up starting at Veterans Park in Ocean Beach!

In April of 2009, President Obama signed legislation that established 9/11 as a national day of service and remembrance in our country. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved and do your part to help keep our area beaches clean. As an added bonus, Dave Matthews Band’s bass player, Stefan Lessard will be joining the effort, chatting with the volunteers and holding a special contest where you could win tickets to the Dave Matthews Band concert happening the following day Sept. 12th at Cricket Amphitheater!

So feel free to bring your children, invite friends and come join your neighbors in paying tribute to the families that were affected by 9/11 as well as our brave service men and women who continue to be sent into harms way in foreign countries fighting brutal wars. What better way to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives than by volunteering in your community? The clean up starts at 4:00pm and goes until about 6:00pm.

Hope to see you out there!

Just as an FYI…this event was also quite successful. More than 150 volunteers showed up and picked up more than 150lbs of trash off our shore line (mostly cigarette butts and wrappers). There was a local radio station raffling off tickets to the Dave Matthews Band concert and my next door neighbor was one of the winners! So thanks to all who showed up and donated their time to a good cause. I’ve never seen the cliffs and our beach so clean!
