On this day, after a busy whirlwind trip to purchase items that I needed for my trip to Fargo this week, Hitomi and I found ourselves to be quite hungry. I hadn’t been to “Noodles and Company” for quite some time and since we were in the Midway district decided to give the restaurant a try.
It was relatively late for lunch – 2:00pm – and a few of the tables outside had patrons eating, but only one table was occupied inside. (While we were there I noticed a steady stream of take-out orders, and two Uber drivers picking up deliveries.)
When you walk into the restaurant there is a large order board on the wall. Directly below it were small copies of the menu which was very handy for me since I did not have to write everything down that was offered. Additionally, we took the menu home because they do have “Uber Service” and I can am fairly certain that we will be ordering again.
In addition to soups and four salads, there is a “Kids Meal” that includes Spaghetti and Meatballs, Buttered Noodles, Mac & Cheese and Grilled Chicken Breast with Dipping Marinara. They get to choose two sides – Broccoli, applesauce, pineapple and “Kids Crispy” – whatever that is. The kids drink is either a fountain drink, organic low fat milk or organic juice.
At the very beginning of ordering, you select the size of dish you want – regular $5.99 – or small $4.59. You can add Meat or Tofu and a side or extra veggie.
We decided to start with two of the three appetizers – Potstickers – (we ordered 3 but 6 is also available) at $2.99 and Korean BBQ Meatballs, 5 or 10 (we ordered 5) also at $2.99.
Then we placed our order for the main meal. Hitomi and I elected to order noodle dishes, and she ordered the Pad Thai – rice noodle stir-fry with scrambled egg, Napa and red cabbage, citrus, peanuts, Asian sprouts, green onions and cilantro and I ordered the Japanese Pan Noodles, which was comprised of caramelized Udon noodles in a sweet soy sauce, broccoli, carrots, shitake mushrooms, Asian spouts, black sesame seeds and cilantro. We both ordered the “regular” portion.
We were then given a number to put on our table and when the order was completed it was brought to us by the same person that took our order. It is interesting to note that there was a sign that said, “because these are noodles no tipping is necessary!” Hope the workers are paid more than minimum wage!
Hitomi thought that the potstickers were some of the better ones she has had in America. They were hot, tasty, and the accompanying sauce was nice. I enjoyed the Korean Meatballs, but they were a tad too spicy for me – although I forced two of them down! Hitomi thought they were wonderful.
In fact, both the entrees were wonderful. The Pad Thai was hot when served, and not terribly spicy. It had a slight sweet taste, but it only added to the enjoyment. Hitomi added hot sauce to hers. The Japanese Pan Noodles were delicious – not overly spicy, cooked well, and the veggies – broccoli and mushrooms- were not overcooked. We really enjoyed our lunch.
For those of you that need gluten free foods, the server told me that they have a gluten-free pasta, and a gluten-free rice noodle. Some of their items are marked “V” for vegetarian as well. Also on the menu is Penne Rosa, Pesto Cavatappi, Alfredo MontAmore, Thai Green Curry with Shrimp, Steak Stroganoff, Pork or Chicken Adobo and/or Buttered Noodles.
The total cost $19.35 was amazing for all the food we purchased. Both of us had water but there is an extensive soda bar and individual bottles of drinks are also available.
There is no question in my mind that we will be ordering from them again. At that price, and the taste delicious, it is a winner.
