Chris Bowd contacts OB Rag: says he’s almost normal and is looking for a suspect

OCEAN BEACH, CA.  Chris Bowd has contacted us at the OB Rag and says he is 85 to 90% back to normal – health and mental wise, and as of today (8/20/09) out of the  hospital system. This is great news.

Bowd, the OBcean assaulted July 4th and left unconscious on the sidewalk on Newport Ave and Bacon, and then was in a coma for weeks, wrote to the OB Rag at 4:15 this afternoon and left a comment to the latest article on his situation.

Chris wrote:

hey all. thanks for the great support.

here’s some news… i’m physically/mentally 85-90% and out of the hospital system (as of today, after several weeks in ICU and a handful of surgeries).

i am now searching diligently for an attempted murder/assault with intent to kill suspect. if you can provide any useful info on this topic, please contact Sgt John Berstline of the western division, san diego police department or detective Patrick Hall.

thanks! chris-

Many OBceans came to know Chris because of news of his injuries and the mystery surrounding his circumstances, originally – and nearly exclusively – published on our web site here.

Now that he is out of a coma, the hope is that his memory is sharp enough to recall what exactly happened, and who almost killed him.

We at the OB Rag have been urging our fellow OBceans and anyone else who might have knowledge to come forth with info.  It is amazing to think that somebody could be so injured and left leaning up on a telephone pole and found by para-medics right after 11pm on a crowded July 4th evening on the main street of our community, and no one knows what happened or who is responsible.

A secondary fight for us at this website – besides the one getting out the news and urgency of Chris’ situation – has been trying to get the mainstream media in San Diego to cover this damn story.

We all grimace at the memory of how often we heard about the poor Aussie chap, by our local TV and Union-Tribune, who was  left in a burning OB firepit unconscious.  The mainstream media helped chase down a couple of suspects, who were arrested, tried and jailed. One I believe had even fled the state.

In contrast to Chris’ case, the mainstream media here have been almost mum. There were a couple of quick TV reports and some brief mention online, but nothing in comparison to the coverage of the poor tourist guy, whose parents flew out here, blah, blah, blah.  Has Chris’ mum, or girlfriend, or doctor been interviewed?  Perhaps they shied away, but that is still no excuse for the deafening silence around Bowd.

Hello! Major media – now maybe we’ll hear from you, now that Chris is out of the hospital. There is an on-going criminal investigation into an attempted murder or assault to commit serious bodily injury.  Hey, help the guy and the police out!

That’s great news! Any word on whether or not it stemmed from the Marshmallow fights?

Well That is good news, I do not know Chris but have friends who do. It is good news he is recovering well.

Is there a description of anyone he was involved with that night or does he have memory of the night to determine what happened? that might be helpful…..

Great news on Dr. Bowd!
I know everyone was waiting for this day!
Now that Chris is awake and alert, will he start to push the mainstream media? It is my understanding that Chris’ Mom put the blackout on the press. Many major news organizations contacted Chris’ mother, girlfriend and friends but were told clearly “no comment.” A decision made that had to be respected by his friends.
My hope is that it is not too late and Chris will make the choice to take this to the mainstream media!

What great news!
Strong mind, body and spirit.

Chris, for some reason I had a desire to search for you toward the end of July, and I found this whole story about you, like the day after you came out of the coma. Freaked me out pretty good. I let Kimmie know too, she’s still up north somewhere. Fantastic that you’re doing so much better dude, keep it up and get better!
