The 50th Anniversary of the Black Panther Party is being celebrated this week on the campus of San Diego State University. There’s a showing of the current film of the Panthers, a roundtable discussion of their contributions, and the semi-formal celebration itself.
It’s been over 40 years since San Diego Black Panthers roamed the campus of San Diego State University. The local chapter had its origins right there. It all started with Black Student Union members, Kenneth Denmon and Shirley George-Meadors. Today, the African Students Union is the off spring of the Black Student Union.

Panelists explore the Black Panthers, their connections and impacts. Original Black Panthers, historians, members of related organizations including MEChA and Black Lives Matter reflect on history and outcomes. A Common Experience and One SDSU Community event co-sponsored by the Library. Free and open to the public.

October 12th -Wednesday, Showing of Black Panther Vanguard of the Revolution. 6-8pm. Student Union Theater.
October 15th – Saturday – Black Panther Party 50th anniversary, in the Student’s Union plaza 7-9pm, this free event is “simi-formal”.
October 15th – Saturday – Roundtable discussion about the Black Panther Party contributions to society. 3-5pm. Presby Conrad theater.
