i'll be continuing my coverage of the educational budget crisis in the coming months. when there is news to report, you'll see it here in the OBRag. I have a daughter attending SCPA--a magnet school for the creative & performing arts--that's very much endangered by the potential budget cuts.

Doug, please keep us up to date on this Unified School District budget stuff. Many of us without school kids are out of the loop on this process of budget cuts, altho' we may be focused on the City's. We all need to keep abreast of this issue - my adult kids are either in or just out of college. They and I are all products of the public school system. That was back when California cared about its schools.

Doug's point that education is an investment (para. 10) is spot on. However, given material conditions of the political economy there appears to be no will to invest in infrastructure other than the military related. Globalization and outsoucing just about guarantee an ill and ill educated workforce for the U.S. "How about those Chargers?" as opposed to "How about those elections in Bolivia?" But I digress.

Hasta la revolution siempre, until then...GO CHARGERS!

Education gets 41% of the General Fund! That's way too much, there are a lot of areas in the education system that can be cut. No other nation spends so much on their education system, and there children are better educated than ours. The General Fund monies need to be distributed more evenly to be fair to all! And no, your children will not end up working in fast food if education takes a cut!
